The Law Library's resources can be powerful tools for your job or internship search. Our resources can help you find employment opportunities, identify firms and businesses that you want to contact, and facilitate your research to prepare for interviews

Legal directories can be used to research employment opportunities, practice areas, firms and attorneys.To find this information, try searching the following fields:

  • Firm, Court, or Organization (e.g., Indiana Supreme Court)
  • Geographic region  (e.g., New York or San Francisco)
  • Area(s) of Practice (e.g., Intellectual Property)
  • Languages (e.g., Korean)
  • Law School (or Undergraduate Institution) Attended (e.g., Indiana University)

These terms, or any others relevant to your research, can also be used in an online keyword search.

The following professional directories are available to Maurer Law School students, faculty, and staff:

Bloomberg Law

  • Bloomberg Law's "Law Firm Research" section offers content that includes law firm newsletters, legal development updates drafted by attorneys and distributed to clients, and other firm materials.  This resource is particularly valuable for keeping up-to-date on trends in specific areas of law and learning about the practice focus of individual firms.

Lexis Advance

  • Lexis Advance has listings of legal professionals, including attorneys, judges, and expert witnesses.

Martindale.com

  • A free searchable online directory of U.S. legal professionals.  Search by the following criteria: practice areas, law firms, attorneys, locations, and law schools.  Also available on Lexis Advance as LexisNexis® Law Directory. 

NALP Directory

  • The NALP Directory of Legal Employers provides a free directory of legal employers throughout the US. It includes specific information on law firms, government agencies, public interest organizations, and corporations, including lawyer demographics, practice areas, compensation and benefits, diversity and inclusion practices, and other valuable information about legal employers.

Westlaw Directories

  • Westlaw has numerous, searchable, professional directories available, including its Legal Directory and Almanacs of American Politics and the Federal Judiciary.

Westlaw Profiler

  • The Westlaw Profiler is a collection of more in-depth information on specific, primarily high-profile, individuals in the legal field.  Conveniently, several of the profile databases are broken down by practitioner-focus, such as Arbitration, Intellectual Property, Patent and Trademark.
